04/01/2026
Duration: 03:35

18 members attended
A couple had climbed up the southeast ridge of Siabod with the intention of descending by the north east ridge, however, once at the summit one of the pair became exhausted and unable to continue so they put up an emergency shelter and called for assistance. Due to the severe weather conditions and the time it would require to locate them, the team leader suggested that they start moving if at all possible. After a quick discussion they started walking and a hill party was deployed to meet up with them on their descent. They were intercepted on the southeast ridge and warmed up before continuing the descent to the landrover track and down to Pont Cyfyng.

A well equipped winter mountaineer became stuck on the summit of Y Garn as they were unsure of the return descent of the North East ridge in darkness and cloud and were unwilling to try descending to Lyn y Cwn. They were very well equipped for winter mountaineering and had managed to dig a snow hole in the deep snow within the summit shelter so were protected from the wind. The team leader explained that given the weather conditions it would be approximately 3 hours before a hill party could reach their location but they were happy to wait. A party of two team members deployed in difficult snow conditions and assisted the walker back down, also picking up a further two walkers who had become disoriented near Llyn Y Cwn.. Two other walkers who had become disorientated near Llyn y Cwn also joined the rescue party for the descent back to the road.

A vulnerable individual in Mynydd Llandegai required transport to hospital and due to severe weather conditions and icy roads an ambulance was not able to attend. As they were in a safe location with a Police Officer present, the Team Leader advised that OVMRO may not be able to attend as accessing the 4x4 vehicles at Base may not be possible. It was agreed that the Police would organise the transfer, and the team were stood down with no deployment.
